Former United States Marine that found CrossFit while serving in between the years of 2010-2014, with his first official WOD ever being the hero workout, Murph. Also being a former chubby child, he has a history of lots and lots of running to burn off the flab, then channeling that to compete in his middle and high school cross country and long distance track and field teams. The love for Crossfit grew easily for Stephen as he has grown up with a passion for health and fitness.
Stephen was born in Houston, Texas, and has traveled outside of Texas throughout his life. These places include, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Panama, and sunny California. Despite all of these wonderful places, there’s truly no place like rootin’ tootin’ Texas.. He’s currently a student at Lone Star College, completing his core curriculum classes in pursuit of entering the health services. Stephen has also been (and still is) a vegan for just over 5 years now (insert bacon joke here).
Stephen believes anyone is capable of starting CrossFit at any level of fitness they currently hold, as everything is infinitely scalable. After his end of active service, Stephen bought equipment (squat rack, barbells, plates, rowing machine, kettle bells, dumbbells, etc.) and became a garage athlete. Starting with the basics, he learned the movements a day at a time by watching video after video and reading article after article. Even to this day, he still learns just as much as when he first started out. There’s always something new to develop and improve on, which always keeps training fresh and enjoyable! And there’s no better way to push yourself and build camaraderie than to suffer with those around you doing the same punishing workout.
Favorite WOD: Murph (with strict pull ups)
